Barco Upgrades Mobile Point-Of-Care Tablet

Medical imaging specialist Barco has introduced an upgraded version of its ProScribe mobile point-of-care tablet PC. Featuring 60% more processing power, 100% more internal memory, and the latest Windows® operating system, the new ProScribe meets the most challenging mobile workflow needs of today's healthcare enterprises.

"Since its introduction, the ProScribe thin client has proven its worth in healthcare environments where physicians and nurses depend on instant availability of patient information. The device provides all the benefits of a 12-inch tablet PC and adds the convenience of silent operation, rugged durability, medical look and feel, and ready-to-go portability," explains Barco's Market Director Toon Dierckx.

The new and upgraded ProScribe, labeled MTPP-0212, inherits all these established benefits, but has been fitted with a faster 1.6 GHz processor, 1 GB internal RAM and a whole series of options, including up to 16 GB Compact Flash memory and 32 GB Solid State memory.

To enhance the user experience and ensure full compatibility with the most recent software releases, the new ProScribe comes as standard with the latest Windows® Embedded Standard operating system. Other innovations include an optionally available RFID reader and a built-in barcode scanner, which supports error-free patient ID order entry and medication administration. Finally, the new ProScribe has been designed to host an integrated digital camera for photographic and video documentation. Upon request, the device can also be equipped with a 3G wireless module to ensure state-of-the-art wireless operation.
