Case Study: Distributor Of Treefruit And Grapes Leverages Printronix RFID Printer Technology To Meet Multiple Compliance Mandates
Situation In an industry where hourly variations in temperature can affect a product's shelf life, Ballentine believed that RFID technology would revolutionize the tracking of its produce movement by increasing order accuracy and inventory visibility, reducing operational costs, and enabling the company to always deliver the highest-quality produce to its customers. As such, Ballentine made the decision to deploy Manhattan Associates' RFID-enabled supply chain execution and optimization solutions. Manhattan Associations not only provided Ballentine with its RFID and warehouse management solutions, but also served as a systems integrator for the RFID deployment, helping the company choose hardware partners, including Printronix for its SmartLine 5000e RFID printers.
Goals
- To ramp up the RFID compliance, it was necessary to find a printer solution that would provide:
- Intelligent tag management to identify and overstrike substandard smart labels
- Intelligent media detection to proactively identify media type and avoid wasting RFID labels with a standard bar code print job
- Multiprotocol capability support for evolving standards, such as EPCglobal Gen 2
- Ability to track data required by Wal-Mart, including SKU, description, product family, EPC data and grower detail
- Operator east of use
