Although electronic ticketing is the modern replacement for conventional printed ticketing, there are many occasions that require an even more contemporary admissions solution. nanoCrypt, a company which develops software for access controls using nanotechnology, telecommunications and cryptography, has developed a new ticketing solution called nanoTicket®, which utilizes bar code technology and mobile devices. nanoTicket is both an admission and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, which allows customers to purchase tickets online and then receive a 2D bar code ticket on their mobile device.

A crowd of nearly 5,000 people came to witness the christening of a new ship in Hamburg, Germany. Participants were loaded onto thirty-five smaller boats and taken out into the bay for a closer view of the launch. With a rigid loading schedule of 15 to 30 minutes per boat and thirty entrance points scattered over two miles of docks, an unconventional ticketing system was needed in order to ensure guests were on board before the celebration began. In addition, attendees were able to purchase tickets up until the event started, which required event organizers to know the realtime loading status of each boat.
