Printronix And TallyGenicom-Branded Equipment Supports USPS Intelligent Mail Bar Code

February 3, 2011

Printronix supports the United States Postal Service (USPS®) Intelligent Mail® bar code initiative. The new Intelligent Mail bar code system is required by May 2011 in order to continue to receive the bulk mail postal discount. The latest bar code is the next generation of USPS bar code technology used to sort and track letters and flats. Intelligent Mail bar code uses four distinct vertical bar types: Full, Tracker, Ascender and Descender. See the new bar code below.

Printronix currently supports the Intelligent Mail bar code on all of its product lines: P7000 spool and cartridge line matrix, T5000r ENERGY STAR® thermal bar code, T4M radio frequency identification (RFID)-ready thermal bar code, SL5000r ENERGY STAR thermal bar code and SL4M RFID printers. In addition, Printronix offers Intelligent Mail bar code capability on two TallyGenicom models, including the 6200 and 6300 line matrix printers. By using the Intelligent Mail bar code you will find:

  • Greater overall data capacity than existing bar codes
  • More digits for use by mailers, allowing for unique identification of up to one billion mail pieces per mailing
  • More accurate and detailed information about mailings that can enable better decision making
  • Increased mail piece real estate by eliminating the need for multiple bar codes
  • Participation in multiple USPS service programs with a single bar code

Availability
Intelligent Mail bar code capabilities are available now. Those customers using the Printronix P7000, T5000r, T4M, SL5000r (energy star and SL4M and/or the TallyGenicom 6200 and 6300 printers can receive Intelligent Mail bar code capabilities through a standard firmware update.
