ADT Introduces High-Speed Automatic Applicator For RFID Labels

ADT Security Services, Inc., a part of Tyco Fire & Security, today introduced one of the industry?s fastest high-speed automatic applicators for radio frequency identification (RFID) labels.

ADT's new RFID automatic label applicator, the Sensormatic® Quadrel T Series, applies up to 100 labels per minute. Automatic label application plays a significant role in RFID implementation because it eliminates the need to apply RFID labels by hand, which can be more expensive and may result in damage to the RFID label, rendering it useless.

According to Randy Dunn, director of ADT's RFID Division, high speed label application will help consumer packaged goods manufacturers meet the RFID implementation requests set forth by Wal-Mart, the United States Department of Defense and other retailers.

"Automatic label application is essential for large-scale RFID deployments because placing labels on cases and pallets by hand can be expensive and time consuming," Dunn said. "High speed application is another cornerstone in the widespread adoption of RFID."

In addition, the ADT applicator features self diagnostic capabilities that will allow a plant manager to quickly identify and correct label application issues, such as label shortages or timing issues between the conveyor belt and application speeds.

"For more than a decade, we have worked with retailers to apply Sensormatic brand anti-theft labels on products during manufacturing," said George Reynolds, Tyco Fire & Security's vice president of RFID.

"Our years of experience with automatic label application combined with Quadrel's innovative label application equipment helped us maximize the design for greater speed while overcoming the development challenges presented by RFID label application."
