Announcing the SAMSys "Tru Blue, Gen 2" RFID Reader Assurance Program
Source: Sirit Inc.
SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX), an international provider of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) hardware solutions and consulting services is announcing that: 1) purchasers of its UHF RFID readers can be assured of full interoperability compliance with EPC and ISO compliant UHF RFID tags, as well as other tag protocols currently supported by SAMSys readers; and 2) that customers will be able to upgrade their readers to the newly approved EPC Generation Two (Gen 2) standard.
This announcement applies to purchases of SAMSys UHF RFID readers including the current MP9320 multi-port reader (v 2.7), and MP9310 embedded UHF reader module. Furthermore, SAMSys is offering that all purchases of its MP9320 multi-port reader (v 2.7) between now and March 31, 2005 will be upgraded, where necessary, to this level of functionality at no additional cost.
As the RFID reader market migrates to the newly approved EPC Class 1 Gen 2 UHF standard, customers may be concerned about interoperability between various vendors tags and readers; as well as how to protect their investment in reader infrastructure that they acquire today.
SAMSys' new Tru Blue Gen 2 program addresses both these concerns by assuring customers that: 1) its readers will read and write to all EPC and ISO compliant UHF RFID tags 2) any newly purchased SAMSys UHF reader can be updated via a firmware upgrade to support the new EPC Gen 2 standard at no additional cost
SAMSys UHF RFID readers are based upon its popular, multi-protocol and multi-regional design, which utilizes Digital Signal Processing (DSP) design in its architecture. This design offers users the ability to easily configure the readers to interrogate the widest array of UHF tag protocols via SAMSys' RF Command Suite Configurator application; and to operate in the regulatory environments of both the U.S. (FCC) and Europe (ETSI). It also enables firmware upgrades to be incorporated in the field for both the MP9310 embedded reader module and the MP9320 multi-port reader.
Additionally as part of the Tru Blue Gen 2 program, SAMSys will offer field application support to customers such that their applications can be performance-optimized for their specific environment. This includes supporting multiple protocols tags and multi-reader/antenna environments in close proximity for application environments such as dock door portals, conveyors, etc.
The SAMSys Tru Blue, Gen 2 Assurance Program is available immediately on its MP9310 and MP9320 UHF readers. Full details of this program can be found on the EPC compliance section of the SAMSys website.
"Customers are rightly concerned about their present investment in RFID hardware," stated Clifford Horwitz, president and CEO of SAMSys. "The proposed adoption of Gen 2 is still ‘wait and see' for many, but with the knowledge of our future firmware support, they can make today's decision knowing that they are protected in their investment tomorrow. SAMSys has long been known as the innovative leader in multi-protocol readers, and this action underscores our commitment to leading the RFID reader industry."
Today, the SAMSys readers are utilized by many CPG suppliers to the Wal*Mart pallet/case tracking initiative that officially launched in January of this year. SAMSys readers also provide RFID capability to many barcode printers and barcode printer applicator systems which are programming and placing tags on tracked goods for this well known initiative. In addition, SAMSys is an active participant in the METRO Group pallet tracking initiative in Germany. Both of these industry leading initiatives have expressed a desire to migrate to Gen 2 tags when available by tag providers and through readers capable of reading these tags.
Horwitz continued, "SAMSys has been a pioneer in both the philosophy and implementation of flexible, agile RFID reader products – indeed our entire focus has been dedicated to this single goal. We share adamantly in the belief that the migration path to Gen. 2 can and will be reliably and effectively managed by versatile reader technology; and want to assure end-users that any concern for potential replicated investment is unfounded."
