Arcontia Launches A New Dual Interface Smart Card Reader For The Casio IT-800 Handheld Terminal

ARCONTIA TECHNOLOGY AB, a Swedish producer of contactless smart card readers and terminals, today announced the launch of the new CAS2340 dual interface smart card reader for applications using contact and contactless technology. The dual interface reader is designed to be fitted on the backside of Casio IT-800 handheld computers, making it an ideal solution for accessing a number of multi-applications using a single device.

The new CAS2340 smart card reader is compliant with ISO/IEC 14443 A/B and ISO/IEC 7816 for contactless and contact smart cards. With high performance and slim construction, the reader is housed in a plastic case that is easily fitted on the backside of the Casio IT-800 handheld computer. The combination of the reader and PDA provides customers with a flexible and versatile mobile solution for a wide range of application possibilities, such as e-ticketing in public transport, verification of id cards and driver licenses for e-identity and e-government, mobile payment for NFC applications and ticket validation for stadiums, concerts, amusement parks, etc.

CAS2340 is based on the 13.56 MHz contactless technology and is fully compatible with the entire MIFARE family, including MIFARE Plus, MIFARE DESFire EV1 and MIFARE UltraLight C, as well as supporting Smart MX, Calypso and ISO/IEC 18092 (NFC). The reader houses two ISO/IEC 7816 ID-000 sized SAM slots for enhanced smart card security, and one ISO/IEC 7816 ID-1 sized slot for secure identification of contact smart cards. The reader is PC/SC compliant and comes with a comprehensive software development kit for quick and easy development and integration, as well as supporting the latest MIFARE AV1 and MIFARE AV2 SAMs.

“By combining the benefits and features of contact and contactless technology in a single reader, CAS1303 addresses the needs and requirements of a wide range of applications, offering interoperability between and across different solutions,” says Olaf Henrixon, COO at Arcontia Technology AB.

CAS2340 is a highly cost-efficient dual interface reader that fits perfectly on the backside of the Casio IT-800 handheld device, simplifying the deployment of contact and contactless technology. Arcontia provides a complete development kit complete with the CAS2340 reader, MIFARE cards, documentation, tools and sample code in C++ and C#. Developer’s kits are available in May 2012.
