Barcode-Enabled Digital Camera Introduced
A leading digital camera company has introduced a new product featuring a number of cutting-edge technologies, including a barcode scanner.
The camera, which uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies to connect users to the internet, also includes a scanner that allows the device to recognize linear barcodes.
Yuki Uchida, vice president of the company, said the new product "is the present and future of solution-enabled cameras and will be our flagship model." He also pointed out "healthcare organizations and law enforcement communities" have shown interest in the product.
The powerful barcode scanning utility is designed, in part, for use in facility maintenance at water, gas and electric utilities. When a user takes a photo, the barcode on an item is automatically scanned. The image is then stamped with a time, date and location signature, providing proof of when the picture was taken.
The ability to prove timing of photos and item identity in one program is especially useful for data management solutions at warehouses. Whenever goods are damaged, workers can photograph the packaging and the barcode utility will provide all of the necessary information to recover losses from an insurance company. Furthermore, the Wi-Fi connection allows images to be instantly sent, making immediate claims possible. The technology is also useful for law enforcement agencies, as it provides data necessary to manage criminal investigations.
