CipherLab And NutSoftware Create Niche Inventory And Logistics Solution For Nut Growers And Brokers
CipherLab (www.cipherlab.com), a leading innovator in Automated Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) for the retail, warehouse and distribution markets, has been selected by NutSoftware, a niche software development company, as its partner in the creation of an integrated data capture solution aimed at solving the unique problems of the American nut industry. Known as NutWare, the solution pairs NutSoftware's software with the CipherLab 8500 Industrial Mobile Computer, an economical, award-winning ruggedized handheld that delivers up to 160 percent more work per battery charge than similar products on the market.
The Merced, California-based NutSoftware initially designed NutWare as an inventory system that could also calculate grower payments, traditionally an operational problem within the industry. But when one of its customers wanted to add more functionality between the software and the processing plant, NutSoftware selected CipherLab as its hardware provider for hand scanner integration.
"We needed a product that was affordable and that could withstand the harsh conditions of a processing plant or warehouse," said Frank Ramos, senior developer, NutSoftware. "But most importantly, we needed a reliable solution that could keep it simple. We liked the CipherLab 8500's sturdy pistol grip and the fact that it is so user-friendly. And because it is extremely durable, there are very few maintenance problems in the field."
The NutSoftware/CipherLab product is already in use by some of the largest nut handlers in the U.S.
