Code Corporation's Bluetooth Bar Code Readers Achieve FIPS 140-2 Level 2 Certification

The security level opens up new government sales possibilities for BlueStar VARs

BlueStar, a leading global distributor of ADC, Mobility, Point-of-Sale, RFID, Digital Signage, and ID & Security technology solutions, is pleased to announced that the Code Corporation Bluetooth line of bar code readers has earned Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) Level 2 Certification, a critical certification for selling data collection devices to the federal government. Distributed by BlueStar, Code Bluetooth bar code readers are the first in industry to earn FIPS 140-2 Level 2. The security level provides more opportunities for sales to federal government entities by BlueStar value-added resellers that carry Code products.

FIPS 140-2 is a U.S. government security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules for use within a government agency's security system to protect sensitive information. To receive this certification, Code completed the rigorous FIPS certification process for both its wireless bar code readers and Bluetooth modems, as outlined by the National Institute for Standards and Technology.

"We are proud that this certification sets Code apart as the only bar code reader manufacturer to receive the Level 2 validation," says Garrett Russell, vice president of marketing for Code Corporation. "We are firmly committed to providing the most sophisticated bar code reading solution available and meeting the government's security approval underscores that commitment."

The FIPS 140-2 certification provides an enhanced level of security when collecting, storing and transmitting data via the Code Reader 2500 and Code Reader 3500 bar code readers. The FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification adds requirements for tamper evidence and role-based authentication to the devices' already-robust authentication and encryption features, providing an industry-leading level of security.
