Fujitsu is spurring digital change with a specially-designed tablet for retailers.

The Stylistic V535R is intended to enable greater mobility and productivity in shop-floor staff, by allowing them to perform a range of functions independently of Point-of-Sale terminals.

Among the benefits is the tablet’s ability to process customer payments, thanks to either a Chip-and-PIN terminal or a magstripe reader.

This allows staff to ring up customer’s bills on the shop floor directly, rather than forcing them to go through the process of queuing.

Staff can also make use of the traditional advantages associated with connected devices, by pairing the V535R with omni-channel software which can then be used to process returns and exchanges, offer discounts against cheaper rivals, and reserve and order out-of-stock goods .

The V535R will reportedly be compatible with existing PoS software, eliminating retraining costs by using an application staff already know how to use.

In terms of hardware, the V535R ships with either Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit or Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry, and has a quad-core Intel Atom Z3795.

It has an 8 inch 1,920 x 1,200 IPS screen, with specially toughened glass and casing that Fujitsu claims will withstand drops of up to a meter.

“At Fujitsu we understand that in this increasingly digital-first age, when it comes to retail, expectations from consumers are now considerably higher”, Fujitsu’s Managing Director of Retail and Hospitality for the UK and Ireland, Rupal Karia said.

“Consumers increasingly expect exceptional service across all channels, and when in store, expect store staff knowledgeable about product details, stock availability, complementary items and to offer personalised promotions aligned to them”.
