Electronic Medical Record Implementation Enables Nursing Staff to Instantly Access Critical Patient Data Anywhere

Newark, NJ --(Marketwire) - Socket Mobile, Inc., an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, today announced that Lancaster Health Group, a provider of residential rehabilitation, nursing, and long-term care services in the Chicago metropolitan area, has selected the Socket SoMo® 650Rx handheld computer for use in documenting patient assessments, medications administered, activities of daily living and other data associated with individual Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).

With six nursing and rehabilitation facilities and over 1,000 beds, Lancaster Health Group regularly creates and manages a high volume of nursing documentation, which like in many long-term care facilities, has traditionally been done with pen and paper.

"One of the challenges in the long-term care industry is that we're constantly faced with more and more documentation and more and more regulations," said Kimberly Clawson, marketing director of Lancaster Health Group. "We realized that we could drown in paper, or we could move to an electronic system."

Lancaster Health Group has deployed 120 units of the SoMo 650Rx at four of its locations, and expects to have a total of 150-200 devices in use once implementation of the EMR solution has been completed at all sites.

"The SoMo helps us do our work in a more efficient manner. It helps us with our overall productivity and with better utilization of our staff time," said Clawson. "We can document things more quickly and in real time, allowing us to spend more time with patients rather than doing paperwork, and because the SoMo is small enough for our staff to carry while caring for our residents, it makes documenting these services much easier."

"We're pleased that Lancaster Health Group has chosen our antimicrobial medical PDA for use in their organization," said Dave Bledsoe, Sr. product manager of handheld computing products at Socket Mobile. "There's a significant effort within the healthcare industry to increase accuracy while providing quality patient care, and to help accomplish this, care providers are moving as quickly as possible to establish EMR systems in their facilities. The SoMo 650 handheld computer is an ideal product to facilitate easy access to EMRs by the Health Group staff while mobile, and we look forward to increasing our installed base as Lancaster continues to experience positive results with their EMR implementation."
