Star Micronics Presents Its Latest Tablet And Cloud-Based POS Printing Solutions At EuroShop 2020

At the EuroShop 2020 (February 16-20, 2020, Messe Düsseldorf), Star Micronics will be presenting the future of POS connectivity with pioneering solutions from leading POS software and retailers at booth 6 / E41 Payment company bitbakers (Flour.io), iZettle, Checkout Speedy, Repertus and Sitoo as well as the experts in fiscalization, Fiskaly.

Visitors to the booth can experience the wide range of Star's conventional, tablet and cloud-based POS printing solutions. As an innovation leader in POS printing technology, Star has introduced a number of industry innovations, including SteadyLAN , a unique solution that enables reliable connections for iPad POS systems, and the compact, stylish mC-Print series, the models with a printing width of 58 mm and 80 mm as well as up to five hardware and software interfaces.

These include conventional and innovative cloud technologies for controlling selected USB peripheral devices. Star's CloudPRNT technology enables remote receipt and ticket printing from a web server to Star mC-Print2 or mC-Print3 printers without the need for a PC. This is ideal for applications such as Click & Collect (order online and pick up at the store), online orders, event tickets etc. The mC-Print series, which belongs to the mCollection, fulfills the requirements of omni-channel environments as it represents a future-proof solution that enables a seamless transition from conventional to tablet and cloud-based POS systems.

For retailers using tablet or cloud-based POS systems, Star's SteadyLAN solution now offers the flexibility of a tablet POS system combined with the stability of a wired LAN connection. To ensure continuous network access, Apple devices can be connected to Star printers mCP21LB, mCP31L and mCP31LB using a standard Lightning / USB-C cable. For supported Android and Windows devices, the new mC-Print models from Star use a USB-C cable. The SteadyLAN solution is ideal for places where WiFi connections are unavailable or unreliable, and enables direct control of the printer and connected peripherals via cable.

By simply connecting the tablet to the mC-Print printer using the standard Apple Lightning or USB-C cable and connecting the printer to the Internet via a wired LAN connection, supported tablets without WLAN are also connected to the Internet. The tablet can communicate directly with the printer via the Lightning or USB-C cable and the printer can also charge the tablet. When the tablet is disconnected from the printer, it simply uses the WiFi connection (if available) or Bluetooth if a Bluetooth printer model has been installed. This ensures seamless connectivity for mobile POS systems.

Star also offers leading POS printing technology to minimize environmental impact. Star Cloud Services enable digital receipts to be provided without the retailer needing the customer’s email address or other personal information. Star Cloud Services are activated in the printer driver or in the printer itself and work independently of the retailer's POS software. After completing the transaction, customers can request a digital copy of the receipt by scanning a QR code and using the free Star AllReceipts app.

An immediate advantage for customers is the option to remain anonymous and still receive a digital receipt and any coupons offered. Retailers can use the back of digital receipts (similar to printed receipts) for coupons, which customers can then call up together with the digital receipt on their smartphone.

To further reduce the environmental impact, Star enables the printing of a “micro receipt”. The micro receipt is smaller than a normal receipt and contains a QR code that can be used to access the digital receipt including all necessary tax information. Paper consumption is significantly reduced because a micro receipt is only about 5 cm long. This feature is available on a number of Star POS printers. In addition, Star is actively working with several innovative paper manufacturers to ensure that Star printers can use sustainable, recyclable and environmentally friendly paper.

Some of his partners will also be present at the Star booth, who will showcase their latest POS and payment solutions for retailers of all sizes. These include the POS and payment solutions from iZettle, the checkout solution with merchandise management Flour.io from the company bitbakers GmbH & Co.KG, the cloud-based mPOS and omni-channel platform Sitoo for international retailers, and the Speedy checkout, an Android -POS solution.

Visitors can also convince themselves of the conformity of Star's solutions with the new health insurance regulation (KassenSichV). In addition to the digital receipt solution AllReceipts from Star and the paper-saving micro receipt solution from Star, the iPad POS software JUNUX from Repertus, including fiscal integration by the fiscalization specialists Fiskaly, will be presented.

"The retail landscape is evolving," said Simon Martin, director and general manager of Star Micronics EMEA. “While conventional POS solutions are still important, we are seeing a clear trend towards tablet and cloud-based POS solutions.
