Supply Chain Relief Work: WERC To Participate In New Humanitarian Aid Network
The Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) announced that it will participate as a founding member in the newly formed American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN). ALAN is a collaborative association focusing on disaster recovery that is comprised of leading trade associations representing all phases of the logistics and supply chain industries. The association was formed in response to last year's hurricanes in the gulf and tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
ALAN will be able to call on the combined resources of thousands of companies across the country to assist relief agencies in preparing for and responding to disaster situations, and will provide an effective means for members of the logistics community to donate equipment, personnel and funds.
"WERC will tap into its extensive network of distribution experts, whose knowledge can help aid agencies improve their own logistics processes and become more responsive, said Robert L. Shaunnessey, WERC's executive director. "WERC members proved their interest in becoming involved when they actively contributed monetary and in kind donations to the relief efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita."
