TEKLYNX International and Owens Direct Extend Web EDI to Label Printing

Source: TEKLYNX International
TEKLYNX® International and Owens Direct have partnered to offer users of Owens Direct's Internet Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) service the ability to manage and print shipping labels. The new print management capability enables small- and mid-sized enterprise (SME) suppliers to large companies to easily extend the efficiency and cost effectiveness of Owens Direct's Web-based EDI to the printing of compliant shipping labels.

Large enterprises, such as JC Penny, Target, Office Depot, Walgreens and others, require EDI and compliant shipping labels. But that can be a financial and administrative burden for smaller companies. Owens Direct's approach of providing an outsourced, Web-based, full-function EDI system is reliable, cost effective and efficient, and has no administrative overhead for either the large enterprises or the SMEs. In fact, it is the large enterprises that often recommend Owens Direct to their suppliers to help them comply with EDI requirements.

Collaboration aligns EDI and print management expertise

TEKLYNX, the world's leading developer of software products for the AIDC (automatic identification and data collection) marketplace, worked with Owens Direct, a global provider of Web-based EDI services that connect SMEs to Global 2000 companies, to develop a Web-based, customized approach to compliance label management. Owens Direct and the TEKLYNX' Professional Services Group, using LABELVIEWT label design software, developed a Web-based print management system that takes all of the information necessary to print compliant shipping labels directly from the Owens Direct Web-based EDI system.

"This is the finishing touch to the advanced shipping notice module," offered George Norment, president for Owens Direct. "Now, we've got EDI covered coming and going. By relying on TEKLYNX' Professional Services Group's expertise in print management, along with the flexibility of LABELVIEW software, we've come up with the perfect solution - a natural extension to our Web EDI system that takes care of label generation automatically and in the background."

Industry and vendor compliant labels on demand

Users can now automatically print shipping labels at their own offices or shipping docks directly from the Owens Direct EDI system. Users simply select the print label function and a file is sent to a standard personal computer running TEKLYNX' LABELVIEW software which prints labels at the SME's office. There is virtually no setup required by SMEs. The entire EDI system is managed by Owens Direct and can often be implemented in just a day.

The LABELVIEW software automatically prints the labels to a designated printer. Any Windows compliant printer can be used along with standard or custom label stock. TEKLYNX has designed industry complaint label templates for retail, automotive and other industries, as well as compliant label templates for virtually all of the Global 2000 companies that have specialized requirements.

Commented Bob Blythe, TEKLYNX vice president of sales and professional services, "Now, Owens Direct handles the entire order management process and covers the fulfillment end from invoicing to shipping. The TEKLYNX print management system perfectly complements Owens Direct's approach to EDI - it's easy to implement, works automatically and is flawless in operation."
